Royal Blind School Family fun day - Hearts and Minds. Improving lives, one smile at a time.
Dr Dan Dee Lion and Dr Mousse were delighted to be invited to the Royal Blind School’s family fun day at the end of term. They were surprised to find that a whole menagerie of animals had also been invited so much fun was had with the goats, bunnies and Shetland ponies, though Dr Mousse narrowly avoided being spat on by an alpaca….never look them in eyes!! It was fantastic to spend time with pupils, present, past and future, Dr Dan Dee Lion got his nails done, Dr Mousse went on a bouncy castle for the first time and they both helped the staff make pizzas (well, got them an ice-cream while they were making pizzas). Dr Mousse was delighted to see some ex-pupils who had been in one of the very first classes she visited at the Royal Blind School 14 years ago!!

When we started visiting the school in 2010 Dr Mousse and Dr Sprout would visit all the pupils in Sandy Lunan and Carolyn Thornton’s classes, the two teachers who became such champions for the Clowndoctors in the Classroom programme and supported us so well. The Clowndoctors had a lot to learn about working in the classroom as our practice had been based mainly in individual visits. Sandy and Carolyn helped us enormously by videoing each session and we would look at it together and see what had gone well and what we could do better.

14 years on, it was such a pleasure to meet some of those original pupils at the family fun day. Needless to say, their sense of humour and mischievousness had not diminished over the years and much gossip was had alongside Dan De Lion showing off his dance moves to Reach to the Stars!!
