ELDERFLOWERS AT SCOTTISH DEMENTIA ARTS FESTIVAL 2025 - Hearts and Minds. Improving lives, one smile at a time.

Exploring Connection Through Play: Hearts & Minds Elderflowers Workshop

What happens when music, laughter, and a suitcase full of curious treasures are used to spark connection? That’s exactly what Hearts & Minds invites you to discover at their upcoming Elderflowers workshop.

Led by Lucy McGreal, Co-Artistic Director of Hearts & Minds, and joined by the warm-hearted characters Dippsy and Buddy Elderflower, the session offers a rare glimpse into the art of co-creation with people living with dementia. Relaxed and playful, the workshop is designed for people with dementia, their families, and their friends — anyone curious about finding new ways to share moments of joy and connection.

The Elderflowers are no ordinary workshop facilitators. They are healthcare clowns — an extended family who travel across hospitals and care homes in Scotland, using music, objects, and imagination to build meaningful bonds with people living with dementia. Each Elderflower carries a suitcase, not just filled with props, but with endless possibilities for connection.

Participants in the workshop will have the chance to ask questions, see the Elderflowers’ work in action, and leave with fresh ideas on how playful approaches can transform everyday interactions.
