Today is World Alzheimer’s Day.
Our Elderflower Programme was launched over twenty years ago and since then we have visited ladies and gentlemen living with dementia and worked with the amazing healthcare staff in many care units across Scotland.
The creative and artistic skills of our Elderflowers are used as tools to help encourage engagement and movement and brighten the day for the ladies and gents. It has been called by a senior staff member in Borders General Hospital unit as ‘a happy hangover’ as the effects of a visit from the Elderflowers can stay with the ladies and gents for some time after the Elderflowers have departed.
Here, Fiona Ferrier, Artistic Lead, and Toots Elderflower, shares insights into the process and thought that the Elderflowers put into each visit when they arrive that day.
