In 2024 we are celebrating 25 years of the Clowndoctors. We work with so many amazing people in all the locations the Clowndoctors visit, and we will be celebrating with them over the next few months.
The first of our celebrations is at the Royal Blind School in Edinburgh. Dr Mousse, Dr Cous Cous, Dr Crumble and Dr Dan Dee Lion were on hand to lead the celebrations with the pupils, their families and the staff.
The Clowndoctors started visiting the Royal Blind School School in the winter of 2010 as a pilot scheme. This was our first time working with a whole class of children with different and varied needs. Previously we had visited children in hospitals and hospices. The pilot scheme was a great success, and these visits formed the basis of our Clowndoctors in the Classroom Programme.
Working with the children and staff at Royal Blind School has had a profound impact on all our work and has helped us develop our therapeutic clown techniques providing high quality, person centred, live arts experiences.
The Royal Blind School has championed our work and made it possible for us to create 1000s of unique connections and relationships. After 14 years we are delighted to still be a regular part of the school week and getting to know so many extraordinary, brilliant, and funny children.
A huge thank you to everyone at the Royal Blind School and Sight Scotland and here’s to the next 25 years.
